Disaster Alert

A winter storm dumped several inches of snow downing power lines, trees, leaving over half a stranding motorists and million customers without power.

Chapters conducted call downs with all community chapters in their region, placed them on stand-by and communicated with local emergency management.

The chapters continue to monitor the situation to provide assistance, if needed.


Disaster Alert: Winter Storm in New Mexico

Disaster Alert

New Mexico – A winter storm over the weekend in Torrance county resulted in the closure of westbound lanes of Interstate 40 due to an accident.

The Mid-Rio Grande Chapter at the request of the county Emergency Management supported a county shelter and provided meals for 175 people.


Disaster Alert: Winter Storm in Massachusetts and Maine

Disaster Alert

Massachusetts – A winter storm, that dumped rain and snow throughout the state closed roads, damaged hundreds of homes and caused power outages to thousands of local residents on Friday.

The ARC of Massachusetts Bay Chapter deployed Disaster Action Team (DAT) and opened a shelter for the evacuees

The ARC of Northeast Massachusetts Chapter deployed DAT and opened a shelter for affected-area residents.

All other chapters provided mutual aid.

Maine – A winter storm caused power outages to thousands of local residents of York, Cumberland and Sagadahoc Counties on Friday.

The ARC of Southern Maine Chapter deployed Disaster Action Team (DAT), opened 2 shelters and provided Mass Care (MC) for residents in the affected area. They also worked closely with the local Emergency Management (EOC).

The Mid Coast Chapter deployed DAT, opened a shelter and provided MC for affected-area residents. They also worked closely with the local Emergency Management.

The State Emergency Operations Center was also staffed.


Disaster Alert: Winter Storm in Pennsylvania

Disaster Alert

Pennsylvania – Winter weather affected residents in several portions of the state on Thursday. Heavy snow is predicted across Pennsylvania on Friday.

The Berks County Chapter staffed the state Emergency Operations Center.

The Susquehanna Valley Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team and opened a shelter for dozens of affected-area residents.

Disaster Alert

New York – Part of the state was hit by a snowstorm yesterday causing power outages in many counties. The storm is expected to continue through today.

A total of six shelters were opened by the chapters last night and provided mass care.

Disaster Alert

Texas – Thousands of residents in the Dallas/Ft. Worth region continued to be without power over the weekend due the winter storm.

The Dallas Area Chapter opened 3 shelters, kept others on standby, provided Mass Care (MC) and contacted local emergency management.

The Chisholm Trail Chapter opened a shelter kept others on standby, and communicated with local emergency management.

The Smith County Chapter placed 3 shelters on standby and spoke with local emergency management.


Disaster Alert: Winter Storms in Mississipi, Texas, East Coast States

Disaster Alert

Mississippi – Inclement weather affected residents in Hancock, Harrison and Forrest Counties on Thursday.

The South Central Mississippi Chapter opened 2 shelters in Forrest County for local area residents. The Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter opened a shelter in Hancock and Harrison Counties for travelers and affected-area residents.

Texas – A record-breaking winter storm that continued to effect several parts of the state, particularly in the Dallas/Ft. Worth region, left thousands of residents without power on Thursday.

All chapters placed shelters on stand-by, contacted local emergency management and are ready to respond, if necessary.

East Coast Storms – Thousands of residents throughout several states and the District of Columbia continue to be affected by power outages because of the Nor’easter and blizzard that occurred on Tuesday through Wednesday on top of the weekend storm.

Delaware was placed under a State of Emergency yesterday.

Chapters within the affected areas kept dozens of shelters open and provided Mass Care for local residents, as well as stranded travelers, and continued to collaborate with government agencies and community organizations to provide support as needed.


Disaster Update: Winter Storm in Oklahoma

Disaster Alert

Update 2/4/10: Currently an estimated 46,470 customers remain without power; full restoration is expected February 5, 2010. The storm is blamed for 7 deaths.

Oklahoma – Power outages continued to affect local residents due to last weekend’s winter storms. Currently it is reported that over 70, 000 customers are without power.

The Chapters kept 11 shelters open, provided feeding, supported other organizations providing Mass Care (MC), and staffed or contacted Emergency Operation Centers (EOC’s).


Disaster Alert: Winter Storms in Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Oklahoma

Disaster Alert

Strong winter storms that brought ice and snow to several states including Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Oklahoma.
since Friday caused power outages to thousands of local residents, closed roadways and stranded travelers. Several State of Emergency declarations were made.

Oklahoma – Winter storms continued to cause power outages to local residents and road closures that stranded travelers throughout the state since Friday. The President declared a State of Emergency for Oklahoma. Chapters deployed Disaster Action Teams (DAT), opened 12 shelters, provided Mass Care or partnered with other organizations to provide Mass Care (MC) for hundreds of residents as well as stranded travelers and staffed or contacted Emergency Operations Centers to assist as needed. As of midnight, February 1st, there were 456 shelter occupants.

Disaster Alert

Texas – A winter storm affected different counties throughout the state yesterday. Extent of damage or whether there were any injuries or deaths is unknown at this time. The Chisholm Trail and El Paso Area chapters have placed a number of shelters on standby and are actively engaged with local officials and Emergency Management.

The Smith County, Heart of Texas Area, ARC of Central Texas, San Antonio and Dallas Area Chapters are prepared to respond if needed.
