Disaster Alert

Texas – Thousands of tires at an abandoned recycling facility in the southern part of Hawkins City caught fire at about 11:30 pm on Monday night. Toxic smoke from the massive tire fire caused an evacuation of residents and school closures yesterday. The Hawkins Fire Department is monitoring the fire while the tires burn out on theiro own.  It is expected to burn for up to a week. About 400 people in the town of 1,500 had been cleared out by midmorning Tuesday. Two shelters are on standby and an Emergency Response Vehicle team is on site in Hawkins providing rehab for the fire department.
