Texas – An explosion at a hotel in Corpus Christi damaged dozens of units and affected scores of people on Thursday. Multiple injuries reported.

The Coastal Bend-Texas Chapter deployed Disaster Action Teams, provided emergency individual assistance to disaster victims, and supported emergency responders with canteen services.

From the Rio Grande to the Red River, more than 800 families in Texas were impacted by Tropical Storm Hermine. Flooding rains and tornado touchdowns destroyed everything in their path and claimed lives.

Disaster Update

This morning at approximately 9:30am, Red Cross teams will deliver breakfast to victims of Tropical Storm Hermine at the Willow Creek Apartments and the surrounding neighborhood. Residents are still without power and know that the road to recovery will be a long one. On top of providing breakfast, clean-up kits that contain squeegees, mops, bleach and other essential supplies will be provided to those who need it. More than 70 homes in this West Arlington neighborhood have been destroyed or sustained major damage.

Below are the final statistics from all damage assessment surveys conducted across North Texas due to Tropical Storm Hermine:

TOTAL HOMES AFFECTED: 246
(areas include Tarrant, Johnson, Dallas, Rockwall and Denton counties)

Destroyed: 4 Homes
Major Damage: 86 Homes
Minor Damage: 156 Homes


Disaster Update: Tropical Depression Hermine in Texas

Disaster Update

Texas – The remnants of Tropical Depression Hermine reportedly spawned a number of tornadoes in and around Dallas that affected businesses, industrial areas, damaged an apartment complex and several homes yesterday.

The Dallas Area chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT), to assess the need of the affected residents. They will begin detailed Disaster Assessment this morning.

Shelters Open:
Rush Creek Christian Church, 2401 SW Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington Kidd Springs Recreation Center, 711 W Canty St., Dallas

Last night, seven people spent the night at the Rush Creek shelter. No families spent the night at Kidd Springs.

Damage Assessment:
Teams of Red Cross Damage Assessment workers will gather at the Dallas Area Chapter, 4800 Harry Hines Blvd, at 8:00a.m. this morning. These teams will receive maps of affected neighborhoods to survey for residential damage. They will depart from the Dallas Area Chapter and head to key target zones:

Seagoville, Irving, Grand Prairie, Dallas and Arlington

An update on services that will be provided to Arlington flood victims will be provided later this morning.

Tropical Depression Hermine

At 11:00 p.m. EDT, the center of Tropical Depression Hermine was located 60 miles south of Abilene, Texas moving north near 16 mph. Maximum sustained winds were 35 mph, with higher gusts. A turn towards the north-northeast is expected today followed by a turn toward the northeast by Thursday. The remnant of tropical Depression Hermine is forecast to move over central and northern Texas. Isolated tornadoes are possible over portions of central and southeast Texas. Floods, Flash Flood Watches, and Warnings are in effect for north and central Texas through Wednesday.

Texas – Reports of the remnants of Tropical Depression Hermine causing flooding in San Antonio, Waco, Austin and Dallas areas, and affecting many other parts of the state prompting expanding evacuations.

Texas Chapters have deployed Disaster Actions Teams (DAT), opened three shelters and are providing Mass Care to evacuees and emergency workers.


Tropical Storm Hermine

Hermine made landfall on Monday and is expected to affect the southern portion of the state with high winds and rain up to 12 inches in areas throughout Texas.  A Hurricane Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect. The storm is projected to move through the center of the state.

Disaster Alert: Hazardous Materials in Texas

Texas – A tractor-trailer ran off a bridge and spilled a chemical into Post Oak Creek in Grayson County on Tuesday.
Texoma Area Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team, dispatched an Emergency Response Vehicle, and provided canteen services to emergency responders with support from  Dallas Area Chapter.

Texas – An apartment roof collapsed after heavy rains in El Paso prompting the evacuation of eleven apartments yesterday.

The El Paso Area Chapter assisted families and provided some with motel lodging for one night.


Disaster Alert: Dam Break in Texas

Disaster Alert

Texas – A dam broke in the town of La Grulla yesterday flooding residential areas in different counties and resulting in the evacuation of a number of homes. Authorities closed several main roads because they were under water.

The South Texas Chapter opened two shelters last night and will be proving mass care for residents. The chapter is working with the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso who will relocate the affected families to different apartments.
