Washington DC/Maryland/Virginia – Severe storms caused power outages to over 300,000 residents within the Washington Metropolitan Area on Sunday.

The ARC of the National Capital Region Chapter deployed workers to support three county-run shelters for residents within the affected area.


Disaster Alert: Severe Weather in Texas

Disaster Alert

Texas – Thunderstorms that affected many areas throughout the state closed roads, damaged structures and caused power outages to thousands of residents on Thursday.

The South Plains Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT) and opened a warming center for local residents.

The Chisholm Trail Chapter deployed DAT and opened a shelter for stranded travelers and affected-area residents.

All of the other regional grouping had shelters and staff on stand by and were ready to respond as needed.


Disaster Alert: Severe Weather in Guam

Guam – Severe Weather Based on the current forecast track, TS 18W would make landfall on Guam early Wednesday morning (EDT) September 30th.  A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Guam and Rota. Guam continues to be at Condition of Readiness (COR) 3, which means damaging winds of 39-57 mph are expected within the next 24 hours.

The Guam Red Cross Chapter has identified volunteers and resources in preparation for the storm.   The chapter continues communication with government officials.

Disaster Alert

Alabama – Flooding due to heavy downpours caused road closures across the state. The Wiregrass Area Chapter opened 5 shelters and the Alabama Gulf  Coast Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team and provided client services to the affected families.
