Wisconsin - Heavy rain flooded parts of Milwaukee and Oak Creek yesterday prompting some evacuations. The Oak Creek Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is open.
The ARC in Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter opened three shelters yesterday but closed one; they will provide meals and drinks to the shelter residents.
California — Heavy rains caused evacuations in areas of recent wildfires such as the Station, Morris, Sayre and Murrick fires. The main areas of concern are Altadena, La Canada, La Crescenta, Glendale, Sunland-Tujunga (City of Los Angeles) and Acton.
Glendale-Crescenta Valley and Antelope Valley Chapters have each opened an evacuation shelter. The chapters continue to coordinate with the local government of the various counties. Other shelter locations have been identified and could be opened if needed. Chapters also have liaisons in place to support all of the command posts and Emergency Operations Centers that have opened.
Connecticut – Strong winds caused temperatures to plunge to about 10 -15 degrees resulting in power outages to more than 100, 000 customers and downed power lines. Power companies are working to restore power to every household. The Connecticut chapter opened a shelter yesterday.
Pennsylvania – Ridgebury had very strong winds and extremely low temperatures yesterday, it is not yet known whether there were power outages, downed power lines or damages.
Tennessee – Heavy rainfall on Tuesday caused flooding and mudslides in Hamilton County that prompted the evacuation of residents within the affected area.
Florida - Severe weather is forecast for much of the South Area through today, including heavy rain, strong winds, and floods. The Florida State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated partially at level 2. The Central Florida Chapter is currently identifying potential shelter locations and placing volunteers on alert.
Louisiana – A severe storm system throughout the region caused a tornado to touch down damaging homes and affecting dozens of others in Bossier Parrish Thursday night. The Northwest Louisiana Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT), opened a shelter, staffed the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC); and partnered with a local vendor to provide food and drinks. The Central Louisiana Chapter provided individual assistance to those affected in the area.
Tracy Reines, Director of the International Response Center, provides a weekend update of American Red Cross relief operations in the Asia Pacific region. Ongoing recovery efforts continue in the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Samoa and American Samoa as a major typhoon, earthquakes and a tsunami ravaged the area this week.
