Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear toured the Red Cross shelter in Calloway County, Ky., Tuesday, Feb. 3, almost a week after a devastating ice storm left tens of thousands of Kentuckians without power.
Jennifer Wilson, executive director of the Calloway County Red Cross chapter, said the shelter in Murray, Ky., served more than 130 clients at its peak. “The Red Cross has done an amazing job for the people of Kentucky,” Gov. Beshear said.
Calloway County Judge Executive Larry Elkins (right) said two-thirds of Calloway County was without electrical power a week after the ice storm. “We never expected it to happen to us,” Elkins said. “The Red Cross has been a valued partner in our crisis response and recovery.”
