Disaster Alert
Ohio – Storms packed strong winds and heavy rains that caused flooding and power outages affecting thousands of residents throughout the state on Monday.
Disaster Action Team members from the Ohio chapters opened 13 shelters or evacuation centers, supplied bulk distribution, provided Mass Care, and staffed local and state Emergency Operation Centers.

Disaster Alert
Ohio – A 62 Car train derailed in Arcadia located 50 miles south of Toledo. About 8 of the cars exploded carrying 30,000 gallons of ethanol each and burned 28 train cars in the fire. Area residents were forced to evacuate but later returned.
Volunteers from the American Red Cross of Hancock County support the emergency responders through canteen services and an evacuation center at a local church.

Disaster Alert
Ohio – Over-pressurized natural gas lines in Lake County caused a house explosion, multiple fires and prompted the evacuation of residents within the affected area on Monday.
The Greater Cleveland chapter deployed Disaster Action Team, opened a shelter and provided assistance as needed to affected-area residents.

Disaster Alert
Ohio – Strong winds caused scattered power outages, damaged a couple of houses and barns yesterday in the Toledo region.
The Greater Toledo Area Chapter sent out a Disaster Action Team to assess damages.

Disaster Alert
Ohio – Tornadoes in Athens and Perry Counties damaged homes and left thousands of residents without power on Thursday.
The Athens County Chapter deployed Disaster Action Teams, opened a shelter, and provided assistance for disaster victims as needed.

Disaster Alert
Ohio/West Virginia – Heavy rains resulted in the flooding of Lawrence, Ohio and two West Virginia counties; Kanawha, and Lincoln.
The Central West Virginia Chapter is working closely with the Counties Emergency Management Directors to determine the extent of damage and needs of those affected. Chapter will begin a preliminary damage assessment (PDA) this morning.

Disaster Alert
Ohio – Pike and Ross counties were affected by severe weather this past weekend. Downed power lines left hundreds of county residents without power. The chapters deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT), staffed the county emergency operation center and provided emergency assistance to disaster victims.

Numbers are changing throughout the day as communications are restored and better numbers are called in. Also, as ice melts people are now able to leave their homes and go to a warming center or a place for a hot meal.
