New Jersey – Heavy rain over the weekend affected over 400 units in several cities and resulted in the evacuation of a thousand people due to a possible collapse of a building under construction. About 238,000 customers are without power across the state. The state Emergency Operations Center is activated at Level III.
Chapters opened 7 shelters with 1003 residents. Chapters have Disaster Assessment personnel available.
West Virginia – Heavy rains Friday night and early Saturday morning caused flooding through parts of Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Mercer, Kanawha and Nicholas counties affecting over ninety homes. A flood related death was reported in Raleigh county. About 12,000 customers are without power and the State of Emergency for 34 counties remains in effect. The state Emergency Operations Center is fully activated at Level I.
Chapters opened 2 shelters with 25 residents, provided mass care and have Disaster Services Human Resource personnel on site and on standby. Shelter assets in the north are available for transport. All chapters in the state have alerted their staff to be available within short notice.
Connecticut – Floods and strong winds resulted in power outages for about 90,000 customers statewide over the weekend as well as a fatality and three injuries in Westport from a fallen tree. The State Disaster Recovery Plan was activated. Power crews are working to restore electricity as soon as possible. The State Emergency Operations Center is partially activated.
The Connecticut Chapter opened 3 shelters and provided mass care to thousands of clients. Preliminary damage assessment is expected to be completed today.
Massachusetts – Rain and winds up to over 70mph mostly on Cape Cod and the south coast yesterday left over 19,000 clients without power.
The Massachusetts Bay Chapter opened a shelter yesterday but closed it later. Chapters will be assessing damages and report to the Disaster Operations Center.
Rhode Island – Heavy rain on Sunday caused the Pawtuxet River in West Warwick to over flow its banks and affected some dwellings resulting in the evacuation of some residents.
The Rhode Island Chapter opened a shelter with 26 overnight residents and provided mass care.
New Hampshire – Heavy rain resulted in downed trees, power outages, rivers rising, local road closings and traffic accidents over the weekend. Due to a sudden spike in the level of the Souhegan River, Wilton Emergency Management may have to evacuate about 50 homes. Flood Advisories and Warnings are posted for rivers and streams in many areas through today. The State Emergency Operations Center currently stands at level 2.
The Chapters are working closely with local Emergency Management Administration town representatives, Department of Health and Human Services and HSEM at the State Emergency Operations Center.
