Press Release: Senator Brad Lager Assisting with Flood Relief for Northwest Missouri Families

June 25, 2010

Senator Brad Lager Assisting with Flood Relief for Northwest Missouri Families
Senator Lager Volunteering for the American Red Cross Fundraising Efforts

Friday, June 25 – Northwest Missouri – Senator Brad Lager is rolling up his sleeves and is getting to work with the Red Cross for disaster relief in his district. Senator Lager is raising money for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The fund provides the help for those struck by disaster and these gifts enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, clean-up supplies, emotional support and other assistance to disaster victims. Brad Lager is Missouri State Senator for District 12 in Northwest Missouri.

“Helping the Red Cross raise money is just on more way I can fight for the families in my district,” stated Senator Lager. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on donations from the public to fund the immediate disaster relief in Northwest Missouri. No federal financial assistance is available for the families at this time.

Flooding has devastated at least 200 homes in Andrew and Holt Counties. Severe thunderstorm destroyed 7 homes in Buchanan County. Sandbagging continues to try to save homes in Atchison and to save more homes in Holt County.

“The Red Cross was immediately on the scene with shelter, food and other immediate assistance following the devastating floods and storms in Northwest Missouri,” stated Senator Lager.

The Red Cross is projecting it will need $75,000 to $100,000 to fund relief efforts and the relief efforts will last through the summer. Because of the economic condition and the rural location of the disaster, fundraising is extremely difficult.
