Louisiana – Severe winter weather affected residents throughout the entire state on Thursday.
The Governor declared a State of Emergency.
Chapters initiated call downs and conducted state chapter conference calls to identify human and material resources, supported shelters, placed others on standby, communicated with emergency management and staffed Emergency Operation Centers on local and state levels.
Chapters continue to monitor the situation and remain on standby to provide additional assistance, if needed.
Disaster Alert: Cold Weather in Louisiana

Louisiana – Below average temperatures triggered the city of New Orleans Cold Weather Response Plan, which affected residents within St. Tammany Parish on Monday.
Disaster Action Team members from the Southeast Louisiana chapter were on the scene with a logistics vehicle and a shelter was placed on stand-by for affected-area residents.
Disaster Alert: Hazardous Materials in Louisiana
December 1, 2010Disaster Alert
Louisiana – A major gas pipeline ruptured in Natchitoches Parish yesterday prompting the evacuation of residents in a one-mile radius on the west side of the parish.
Natchitoches Office of Emergency Preparedness opened a reception center for the affected residents. The American Red Cross of Central Louisiana placed volunteers and shelters on standby.
Disaster Alert: Train Derailment in Louisiana

Louisiana – Volunteer members of the American Red Cross Southeast Louisiana Chapter Disaster Action Team (DAT) are currently responding to a train derailment at the intersection of Becky Lane and Madewood Drive in Destrehan. Volunteers are providing drinks and snacks for the first responders and a staff member is in the St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The Southeast Louisiana Chapter will continue to work with St. Charles Parish and support them as this emergency continues.

Disaster Alert: Flooding in Louisiana

Louisiana – Flooding resulted in the evacuation of 14 people in Avoyelles Parish and affected 20 families in Concordia Parish yesterday. Flash flood warnings and watches are still in place for some Parishes.
The Central Louisiana Chapter opened a shelter for the affected residents, deployed Disaster Action Teams and a call down was preformed for available volunteers. They are working with local officials, the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Mayors in the affected areas to determine whether additional needs are required.
The Northwest Louisiana Chapter provided support and clean up kits to the Central Louisiana Chapter.
Disaster Alert: Flooding in Louisiana

Louisiana – Minor flooding was reported in St Martin and Iberia Parishes affecting approximately 10 to 15 homes by early estimates.
The Acadiana Chapter is prepared to conduct Disaster Assessment and distribute Clean up kits when the water subsides. No shelter was requested or planned at this time

April 29, 2010Red Cross Workers Respond to Tornadoes in Mississippi
New Orleans, LA, April 27, 2010 – Following more than a dozen tornadoes and severe weather events across Mississippi, local disaster volunteers are traveling north to Jackson, Mississippi. Currently, three Red Cross shelters are open to anyone displaced by the storms. As of late Monday afternoon approximately 35 families had checked in to Red Cross shelters.
Disaster Alert: Chemical Release in Louisiana

Louisiana – There is a chemical release at a plant in St. Charles Parish. Roads and schools have been closed, and residents have been evacuated.
Volunteer members of the American Red Cross Southeast Louisiana Chapter River Disaster Action Team (DAT) are currently on the scene in Norco. The Southeast Louisiana Chapter has a representative in the St. Charles Parish Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and has opened a shelter.

Volunteer members of the Southeast Louisiana Chapter are currently at the shelter and are prepared to receive residents.
Disaster Alert: Hazardous Material in Louisiana

Louisiana – A large chemical fire resulted in evacuations in Denham Springs yesterday. There were no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
At the request of the Office of Emergency Preparedness, the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter opened a shelter and provided mass care. There were 39 overnight residents.
