Disaster Alert

Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky – Severe storms caused flooding and a tornado that destroyed homes, damaged others, closed roads, stranded travelers, left thousands without power, and prompted the evacuation of residents within the affected areas in several portions of the three states on Monday. Multiple fatalities reported in Tennessee.

Tennessee chapters deployed Disaster Action Team members, staffed local and state Emergency Operation Centers, dispatched 2 Emergency Response Vehicles, opened 3 shelters, provided Mass Care, and assisted disaster victims, as needed.

Disaster Action Team members in Indiana chapters opened a shelter and an evacuation center, supported another evacuation center, and provided Mass Care to evacuees and emergency responders.

Kentucky Chapters deployed Disaster Action Team members, contacted residents affected by the storm, and stand ready to provide additional assistance, if needed.


Disaster Alert: Hazardous Materials in Indiana

Disaster Alert

Indiana – A gas leak in St. Joseph County prompted the evacuation of hundreds of residents and workers within the affected area on Thursday.

The St. Joseph County Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team, set up an evacuation center, staffed command center and provided Mass Care to the evacuees.


Disaster Alert: Flash Flooding in Indiana

Disaster Alert

Indiana – Rainfall in several counties resulted in evacuations, power outages, basement flooding and road closures. Several homes have reported flooding. White County may issue a flood warning today.

The ARC of Greater Indianapolis and Tippecanoe Chapters in central Indiana are working with local Emergency Management in five counties to determine sheltering and other needs. Tippecanoe Chapter provided overnight accommodations for individuals with health needs.

Indiana – A tornado touched down in Chesterton yesterday. A Red Cross liaison was present in the activated Emergency Operation Center (EOC). The chapters also deployed mass care workers to the EOC and provided food and water to emergency workers and the affected residents.

Disaster Alert: Flooding in Kentucky and Indiana

Disaster Alert

Kentucky /Indiana – A severe storm front brought low level flooding and flash flooding to Clark and Jefferson Counties. Many apartment buildings had inches of water in the first floor throughout the day affecting many families. The floods also caused sewer backups, street flooding and power outages. The State Emergency Operating Center was activated.

Chapters opened two shelters and fed residents. They are in contact with the local county Emergency Management Centers and are prepared to do Disaster Assessment when conditions permit.

Midwest Flooding: Shelter Update from Tippecanoe County

The Tippencanoe County Chapter  has opened a shelter at First Assembly of God Church, 9835 West US Highway 421, in Delphi, IN. The shelter is open to anyone who has been displaced due to high water levels on the Tippecanoe River.

Disaster Alert: Flooding and Tornadoes in Indiana

Disaster Alert

Indiana - Several counties including White, Marshall, Carroll and Pulaski were hit by a second storm system that passed through the state yesterday bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms and tornadoes to some areas. Flooding is expected to continue. Many Northern Indiana Counties have either opened or are preparing to open shelters in anticipation of the floods. The Northeast Indiana Chapter has been actively providing mobile food services to those in need.
