Illinois – Whiteout weather conditions caused multiple vehicle accidents and pileups on an interstate in Coles County. This prompted the closing of the expressway on Sunday. Many motorists were stranded and sought shelter.
Disaster Action Team members from the Illinois Capital Area chapter opened a shelter, supported another and provided Mass Care to scores of stranded travelers and affected-area residents.

Disaster Alert
Illinois – A carbon monoxide leak forced dozens of residents to evacuate a 45-unit apartment building in Livingston County.
The American Red Cross of the Heartland Chapter deployed an ERV Crew (Emergency Response Vehicle) and provided Mass Care support to a city-run shelter for evacuated residents.

Disaster Alert
Illlinois – A massive fire at a chemical plant emitted potentially toxic smoke into the air, closed roads, and prompted a shelter-in-place for affected-area residents in Bureau County on Sunday.
The ARC of the Quad Cities Area Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT), dispatched an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV), provided canteen services and supplied cots to scores of emergency responders.

Disaster Alert
Illinois – A possible tornado or straight-line winds caused varying degrees of damage to homes and a 20-unit apartment complex in Beardstown yesterday.
The Central Prairie chapter opened a shelter last night and provided mass care. Initial Damage Assessment has begun. The Capital Area Chapter has an Emergency Response Vehicle on standby to provide mass care for the clean up crew.

The Kankakee Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team and provided individual assistance to affected-area residents.

Disaster Alert
Illinois – Heavy rain in Springfield caused flooding which stranded commuters and flooded basements throughout the city.
The Illinois Capital Area Chapter opened a shelter for the victims. The Chapter will contact the Disaster Operations Center with more information.

Disaster Alert
Illinois – Heavy rainfall caused flooding in Henry County that led to the evacuation of residents in a mobile home park on Thursday.
The ARC of the Quad Cities Area Chapter deployed Disaster Action Team and dispatched an Emergency Response Vehicle to the reception center / day shelter that the city provided for the evacuees.

Disaster Alert
Illinois – Tornados were reported in numerous areas of the state. yesterday. Williamsville and Lomai reported around 48 destroyed homes. The Illinois Capital Area chapter opened a shelter and provided food and water to the affected residents and emergency workers. Disaster Assessment is ongoing.

Disaster Alert
Illinois - A cargo train carrying chemicals derailed near Rockford on Friday night causing an explosion, a massive fire and the evacuation of 600 homes in the surrounding area. The Rock River Chapter sent an Emergency Response Vehicle to the area and provided snacks and meals to the affected residents.
