Press Release: Hotline Provides Immediate Link to Emergency Assistance

JACKSON, MS, April 29, 2010 – The American Red Cross continues to help victims of the Mississippi
tornadoes who still have disaster related emergency needs and who call the Disaster Relief Hotline
number, 1-866-GET-INFO, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Red Cross is
present, available and accessible to help in the recovery of the people of Mississippi.

When someone calls the Hotline:

  • A trained Red Cross worker will listen to their concerns and provide guidance and information to help them move forward in their recovery.
  • Disaster-related needs of an emergency nature that people don’t have the resources to meet are
    immediately forwarded to a Red Cross caseworker. Caseworkers may visit the family to
    determine the extent of their immediate, emergency needs.
  • Relief workers may be able to meet the family’s needs through vouchers, relief supplies or
    referrals and can guide them in acquiring other assistance through government and
    community agencies.

People with emergency needs because their homes were totally destroyed or suffered major damage
should call the Hotline as soon as possible at 1-866-GET-INFO. TDD 1-800-526-1417 for hearing
impaired callers.

  • If you are looking for loved ones on Fort Hood you can visit the Red Cross Safe and Well List. In order to complete a search you will need to know the phone number or address of your loved one.
  • If you are on the post, we encourage you to register on Red Cross Safe and Well List so others know you are safe.
  • If you have spoken to loved ones on Fort Hood, you can register them on Safe and Well by visiting www.redcross.org.
  • Red Cross personnel who work on Fort Hood have been contacted and are safe.
  • The Red Cross has supplied nearly 150 units of blood and blood products to Darnall Army Medical Center and Scott and White Hospital. If you are eligible to give blood or have questions about donating, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (800-448-3543) to make an appointment or visit us online at givelife.org.
  • Scott & White Hospital has additional information about blood donation needs.
  • Families seeking more information can call the Army hotlines at (254) 724-4376 or (866) 836-2751.

CA Wildfires: Orange County Information Hotline

California Wildfires – November 2008

American Red Cross of Orange County has opened its call center to assist residents and those affected by the Triangle Complex Fire.

The phone number is 714-384-0884. The hotline will be open from 8:00AM to 8:00 PM. Callers will be given information regarding donations, volunteering, and establishing contact with loved ones affected by the fires.
