The American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay Chapter deployed Disaster Action Team, opened a shelter, provided Mass Care and collaborated with other organizations to provide assistance for the evacuees.

Disaster Alert

Louisiana – A major gas pipeline ruptured in Natchitoches Parish yesterday prompting the evacuation of residents in a one-mile radius on the west side of the parish.

Natchitoches Office of Emergency Preparedness opened a reception center for the affected residents. The American Red Cross of Central Louisiana placed volunteers and shelters on standby.

Disaster Alert

Virginia – An accident involving a pick-up truck in Danville yesterday resulted in a chemical spill, half-mile radius evacuation and closure of parts of US 29 and 58. Two firefighters were transported to a local hospital after being exposed to the chemical.

The Roanoke Valley Chapter deployed mass care and Community Emergency Response Team volunteers to the scene.

They opened an evacuation shelter where they provided cots, blankets, bottled water, snacks and meals from an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to affected residents, emergency workers and first responders.

Montana – A gas leak prompted the evacuation of residents of an apartment complex in Miles City located n Custer County on Monday.

The ARC of Montana Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team, opened a shelter and provided assistance, as needed, for the evacuees. The shelter may remain open for several days.

– A Chlorine gas leak affected the residents of Magnolia Park in Palm Beach County on Wednesday.

The Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team, dispatched Emergency Response Vehicles, placed a reception center on stand-by and provided canteen services to emergency responders.

Illlinois – A massive fire at a chemical plant emitted potentially toxic smoke into the air, closed roads, and prompted a shelter-in-place for affected-area residents in Bureau County on Sunday.

The ARC of the Quad Cities Area Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT), dispatched an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV), provided canteen services and supplied cots to scores of emergency responders.

Indiana – A gas leak in St. Joseph County prompted the evacuation of hundreds of residents and workers within the affected area on Thursday.

The St. Joseph County Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team, set up an evacuation center, staffed command center and provided Mass Care to the evacuees.


Disaster Alert: Hazardous Material in Georgia

Disaster Alert

Georgia – Local officials have been monitoring a methane gas leak affecting an apartment complex with 25 occupied units since Friday. Public Health will issue a mandatory evacuation order if the methane reaches dangerous levels.

The local Emergency Management Administration notified the Metropolitan Atlanta chapter of this incident. Chapter has human and material resources on standby.


Disaster Alert: Hazardous Materials in New York

June 30, 2010

Disaster Alert

New York – A fuel tanker/dump truck collision resulted in an explosion in Esopus, which ignited a fire that destroyed a warehouse and resulted in the closure of parts of Route 9 W. Both drivers had non-life threatening injuries.

The Ulster County Chapter provided canteen services for about 150 firefighters at the request of the County Emergency Management.
