Mississippi – A single engine plane crashed in Hazlehurst, Copiah County yesterday. The Central Mississippi Chapter provided food and drinks to first responders from an emergency response vehicle. A mental health caseworker was also dispatched and is making contact with the families.
Disaster Alert: Explosion in Massachusetts

Massachusetts – An explosion destroyed one home, damaged six others, and prompted the evacuation of dozens additional homes in Bristol County on Feb. 19. The chapter opened a shelter with an overnight population of 40 and provided food and drinks to first responders.

Disaster Alert: Oklahoma City Bomb Scare

Yesterday, the Red Cross responded to the following event:
- Oklahoma – Bomb scare: A bomb scare in a Federal building in Oklahoma city resulted in the evacuation of the building and nearby buildings. The evacuation was later lifted and the culprit was arrested. The American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma assisted by supporting a respite center where responders and law enforcement agents were fed.

- Hard Freeze Warnings have been issued in parts of Florida, southeast Alabama and Georgia. Learn how to prepare for winter storms.
- Parts of Southern California are expected to receive heavy rain. Learn how to prepare for flooding.
Disaster Alert: NY Aviation Incident

Today, a US Airways plane made an emergency landing in the Hudson River in New York. In situations like these, the Red Cross provides support to responders, passengers, families, and airlines as necessary when local officials ask for our help. Red Cross officials from New York and North Carolina are currently on the scene working with US Airways and local officials.
News reports indicate that family members can call 1-800-679-8215 for information on their loved ones.
