Oregon – Flooding threatened hundreds of homes throughout the state and prompted evacuations of residents within the affected areas on Thursday.

Disaster Action Team members from the Oregon Trail Chapter opened 5 shelters for evacuees, supported another and communicated with Emergency Management.


Disaster Alert: Wildfire in Nevada

Disaster Alert

Nevada – A wildfire burned thousands of acres, destroyed homes and prompted the evacuations of thousands of residents in Washoe County on Thursday.

City, County and State States of Emergency declared.

The Northern Nevada chapter deployed Disaster Action Team members opened an evacuation center / shelter, provided Mass Care and staffed Emergency Operations Center.


Disaster Alert: Severe Weather in South Carolina

Disaster Alert

South Carolina – Severe thunderstorms and a tornado caused damage to several homes in Lexington County and left hundreds of residents in Aiken, Florence and Spartanburg Counties without power on Monday.

The Coastal South Carolina Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT) and worked with disaster victims to determine emergency needs.

Disaster Alert

California – A 6.5 magnitude earthquake occurred offshore of Humboldt County, followed by several aftershocks ranging from 3.0 to 4.5 that damaged homes and buildings, caused temporary power outages, and prompted the evacuation of residents within the affected area on Saturday. One injury was reported.

The ARC Sonoma and Mendocino Counties Chapter and Humboldt County Chapter deployed Disaster Action Team (DAT) and assisted affected-area residents.

Disaster Alert

California – On Sunday, 44 hillside homes in the San Gabriel Mountains were evacuated by authorities in response to heavy rainfall in areas that were previously burnt during wildfires. The San Gabriel Pomona Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT), opened a shelter and provided Mass Care (MC) for the evacuees and emergency responders.


Power Outages in Tennessee, Vermont, South Carolina, and New Mexico

Disaster Alert

Tennessee – High winds caused widespread power outages in Sullivan County on Wednesday. The ARC of Northeast Tennessee Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT), opened a shelter, placed another on stand-by and provided Mass Care (MC) for shelter residents.

Vermont – Winter storms caused widespread power outages to thousands of homes throughout the state on Wednesday and prompted the evacuations of affected-area residents. The Northern Vermont Chapter, Green Mountain Chapter, and Central Vermont-New Hampshire Valley Chapter deployed DATs, opened a shelter, placed another on standby and provided Mass Care (MC) for shelter residents.

South Carolina – Rain and high winds damaged homes and knocked down trees that caused power outages to thousands of homes throughout Greenwood and Laurens County on Wednesday. Evacuations and injuries reported. The ARC of Upstate South Carolina deployed DAT, and provided disaster victims with individual assistance.

New Mexico – Winter storms caused widespread power outages in Cloudcroft and Alamogordo. Local Emergency Management (EM) opened shelter. The Southwestern New Mexico Chapter is supporting shelter with Mass Care (MC) items.


Floods / Tornadoes in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana

Disaster Alert

Georgia - Flooding in Chattooga County on Wednesday prompted the evacuation of residents within the affected area. The Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter and Coosa Valley Chapter deployed Disaster Action Teams (DAT) and opened a shelter for the evacuees.

In an unrelated incident, a tornado touched down and caused damage in Wayne County.  One injury was reported. The Savannah Chapter and Southeastern Coastal Georgia Chapter deployed a DAT and provided individual assistance to disaster victims.

Florida – A tornado that touched down in Leon County caused damages to homes, trees and transportation on Wednesday. The Northeast Florida Chapter and Capital Area Chapter deployed DATs and provided individual assistance to disaster victims.

Louisiana – Flooding in Assumption, St. John, and Arcadia Parishes damaged homes, affected others and made roads inaccessible on Wednesday. The Louisiana Capital Area Chapter deployed DAT, supplied bulk distribution, and identified a shelter, if needed.


Disaster Alert: Hazardous Materials in South Carolina

South Carolina – A landfill with unknown materials burned for several hours and prompted evacuations for dozens of homes within the affected area. The Central South Carolina chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT), opened a shelter, and dispatched an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to provide canteen services for emergency responders and provided Mass Care (MC) for the shelter residents.


Disaster Alert: Shootings in Florida and Washington

Disaster Alert

Florida: A shooting that occurred on Thanksgiving night, in a Palm Beach County home, caused 4 fatalities, 1 injury and prompted the evacuation of a dozen relatives.  17 relatives were in the home at the time of the incident.  The shooter fled the scene.  The local chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team (DAT), provided canteening for emergency responders, offered Mental Health services and worked with the local authorities to provide a safe location for the family.

Washington: A gunman burst into a Washington coffeehouse Sunday morning and opened fire on four officers. The three male officers and one female officer did not survive their injuries. The local chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team (DAT), provided canteening and offered Mental Health services.

Disaster Alert

Louisiana – A severe storm system throughout the region caused a tornado to touch down damaging homes and affecting dozens of others in Bossier Parrish Thursday night. The Northwest Louisiana Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT), opened a shelter, staffed the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC); and partnered with a local vendor to provide food and drinks. The Central Louisiana Chapter provided individual assistance to those affected in the area.
