Disaster Alert

Arizona – Severely cold weather caused utility pipes to burst and prompted the evacuations of residents in Pima, Pinal and Cochise Counties on Thursday.

Disaster Action Team members from the Southern Arizona Chapter setup two shelters and provided material support to a warming center for residents affected by the weather.

The Grand Canyon Chapter deployed Disaster Action Team members and provided material support to shelter residents.


Disaster Update: Tornadoes in Arizona

Disaster Update

Arizona – October 11, 2010 – Two Red Cross volunteer teams will begin casework outreach this afternoon in Bellemont following devastating tornadoes that ripped through the area. One team is traveling from Phoenix. The other is a team from Flagstaff.

The caseworkers, including one Red Cross nurse, will go door-to-door to provide an additional layer of support to people impacted by the tornadoes. They will listen to their stories, offer support and help connect them with other community resources as they begin their road to recovery.

Over the weekend, Flagstaff volunteers canvassed the neighborhood in an Emergency Response Vehicle to deliver snacks, water and cleaning supplies.

Eleven Red Cross volunteers have supported the tornado relief effort. So far, they have passed out:

569 snacks
361 water & Gatorade
14 clean-up kits
32 buckets
15 pairs of work gloves
14 comfort kits (personal hygiene items)
42 stuffed animals

Disaster Alert: Tornadoes, Hail, and Flooding in Arizona

Disaster Alert

Arizona – Several tornadoes ripped through the Flagstaff area. Emergency Management estimates multiple homes were affected by the tornadoes in the Bellemont to Baderville areas. The Phoenix area was also hit by strong winds, flooding and large sized hail.

At the request of the County Emergency Management, the Grand Canyon Chapter opened a shelter. The chapter provided food and other needs from an Emergency Response Vehicle to responders and shelter residents. Damage assessment is ongoing.

Arizona – Excessive rainfall caused flooding that continued to affect the residents in Coconino County on Thursday.

The Grand Canyon Chapter opened a shelter for residents within the affected area.

Arizona – More than 2 inches of rain fell Tuesday afternoon in Flagstaff prompting a voluntary evacuation, flooding roads and resulting in the closure of parts of US 89.

Arizona – A wildfire in Coconino County burned hundred of acres, threatened homes and prompted the evacuation of hundreds of residents on Saturday.

The Grand Canyon Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team, opened a shelter and collaborated with another organization to provide Mass Care to evacuees.


Disaster Alert: Transportation Incident in Arizona

Disaster Alert

Arizona – A bus, traveling from Mexico to Los Angeles overturned in Pinal County on Friday. Multiple fatalities and injuries reported.

The Grand Canyon Chapter deployed DAT, contacted local and state government agencies and communicated with neighboring chapters to place additional workers on standby.
