The Red Cross opened a shelter for amost 40 residents of a senior apartment complex that was shut down when a tree blew over and damaged the apartment’s water main. High winds battered the communities around Pasadena and are expected to continue tonight. The Red Cross is standing by to open other shelters as needed.

In the wake of this weekend’s early winter storm that brought record snowfall and left millions without power, the Greater New York Red Cross is continuing to provide displaced residents with a secure, warm place to stay, hot meals and emotional support at shelters in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and Putnam Valley, N.Y.

The Greater NY Red Cross remains ready to assist local communities in the event that further humanitarian assistance is needed.
