Press Release: Mandatory Evacuation for Luzerne County, PA
September 8, 2011Mandatory Evacuation for Luzerne County
September 8, 2011 (Wilkes-Barre, PA) – Luzerne County officials have ordered the mandatory evacuation of about 120,000 residents of the Wyoming Valley by 4 p.m. tonight for all areas that were previously affected by the Agnes flood of 1972.
The American Red Cross has opened shelters for evacuated residents at:
- State Street Elementary School in Larksville
- Luzerne County Communtiy College in Nanticoke
- Pittston Area High School in Pittston
- Wyoming Area Secondary School in Wyoming
- Misericordia University in Dallas
- GAR High School in Wilkes-Barre
Disaster Alert: Flood in Michigan
August 15, 2011Disaster Alert
Michigan – Flash flooding at a campground in Newaygo County prompted the evacuation of campers within the affected area on Saturday.
The Muskegon-Oceana Chapter deployed Disaster Action Team members and opened a shelter for the evacuees.
