Update 1:33 AM EDT – A shelter is open at the campus of Missouri Southern State Univ.:

Joplin, MO 64801

Jasper County Animal Control is now on site at the Joplin MO Shelter to help accommodate the pets of those who are in need of shelter due to the storms that stuck the Joplin area tonight.

Severe weather currently making its way through the central midwest and the plains, and we know Joplin, MO has been hard-hit.

If you are seeking information about a loved one, you can check our Safe and Well site to see if they have checked in as being safe and well. If you are in the affected area, or know of someone in the affected area who is okay, you can also check in on the site.

Shelter information will become available on our shelter map as they are opened.

Please stay tuned to your local authorities and take cover if advised.
