Disaster Update: Tornado in Minnesota

Disaster Update

Minnesota – Our hearts and thoughts continue to be with everyone affected by the tragic storms that ripped across Minneapolis and the Midwest. Locally, if you are concerned about friends and family on the North Side, call the Family Assistance Center at the NE Minneapolis Armory at 651-268-8537. To check on loved ones that may have been affected by other disasters across the country, visit redcross.org and click on “Safe and Well.”

In partnership with the City of Minneapolis, the Red Cross is providing safe shelter for approximately 200 people tonight in the wake of storm. Those seeking shelter should go to the NE Minneapolis Armory at 1025 E. Broadway St. in Minneapolis. Due to debris in the area, a bus is shuttling people from the 4th Precinct Police station at 1926 Plymouth Ave. N, in Minneapolis and will continue as long as needed.

Dozens of Red Cross volunteers, including health and mental health workers, are responding to this disaster, providing emotional support, food and relief supplies such as towels, diapers, baby formula, comfort kits and more to individuals and families in need.

Special thanks to our local corporate partners like Target and UnitedHealth for stepping up and helping the Red Cross respond to this disaster.

Those who want to help people affected by this and other disasters can make a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief. This gift enables the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance in response to disasters. Visit redcrosstc.org or call (612) 460-3700.
