Disaster Alert: Winter Storms in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina

Disaster Alert

Alabama – A winter storm prompted road closures and affected residents throughout the state on Sunday. Additional precipitation expected today. The Governor declared a State of Emergency.

Chapters opened or supported multiple shelters to assist stranded travelers and affected-area residents.

South Carolina – A winter storm affected the residents in Allendale, Barnwell, Aiken, Bamberg and Edgefield Counties on Sunday.

Disaster Action Team members from the Aiken County Chapter provided material support at a county-run shelter for those affected by the storm.

Georgia – A winter storm cancelled flights, prompted road closures and affected residents throughout several portions of the state since Sunday. Additional precipitation expected today. The Governor declared a State of Emergency.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter contacted emergency management, offered material support to emergency responders and placed Disaster Action Team members on standby to contact clients by phone who are in need of lodging arrangements.

The chapter also requested that all Chapter Executives and Emergency Service Managers in the region participate in a conference call in order to determine response to any emerging needs.
