Disaster Alert
At 5:00 a.m. EDT, the center of Tropical Depression Two was located about 160 miles east-southeast of Brownsville, TX. The Depression is moving toward the northwest near 14 mph and this motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours, bringing the system on shore near the Texas-Mexico border later today.
Some gradual strengthening is forecast and the system could become a Tropical Storm before moving inland. The maximum sustained winds are 35 mph with higher gusts. Total rain accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected over portions of far northeastern Mexico and coastal Texas, with isolated maximum amounts of 10 inches
possible.
Tropical-storm force winds are anticipated to reach the coast later today. However, rain bands with gusty winds are already approaching the southern Texas and northeastern Mexico coasts. Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued from the south of Baffin Bay, TX to Rio San Fernando, Mexico.
