February 27, 2010A Tsunami warning is in effect for Hawaii. Expected landfall is about 11am local time (4pm ET).

Registering with the Safe and Well Web site is an easy way to notify loved ones of your well-being during a tsunami evacuation (US only)
- If you have time before you evacuate, call someone and ask them to register you and your family.
- Registration can be done with the Safe and Well feature of redcross.org or by calling 866-438-4636.
- Friends and family can then search for your message on Safe and Well by using your phone number or complete address.

Earthquake in Chile

The American Red Cross has pledged an initial $50,000 from the International Response Fund to assist communities impacted by today’s earthquake in Chile. We are prepared to take further action as local responders assess the situation.

Disaster Alert: Winter Storm in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania – Winter weather affected residents in several portions of the state on Thursday. Heavy snow is predicted across Pennsylvania on Friday.
The Berks County Chapter staffed the state Emergency Operations Center.
The Susquehanna Valley Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team and opened a shelter for dozens of affected-area residents.
Disaster Alert: Brush Fire and Cold Weather in Florida

Florida – A brush fire in Collier County burned 300 acres, damaged a home and threatened dozens of others in the affected area on Thursday. The Collier County Chapter deployed an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV), placed a shelter and a Disaster Action Team (DAT) on standby, and provided canteen services for affected-area residents and emergency responders.
In a separate incident, cold weather affected the residents of Palm Beach and Martin Counties on Thursday night.
The Martin County Chapter opened a shelter for residents within the affected area.
The ARC of Greater Palm Beach Chapter deployed a DAT, opened 2 shelters and provided Mass Care for over 100 shelter residents.
Disaster Alert: Severe Weather in New Hampshire

New Hampshire – Heavy winds and rain affected several areas throughout the state resulting in downed power lines, leaving thousands without power causing both fire and flooding early this morning.
The Granite Chapter staffed the state Emergency Operations Center to support the possible Mass Care for victims of the storm.
The Great Bay Chapter deployed a Disaster Action Team (DAT) and opened a shelter for fire victims.
The Greater Manchester Chapter placed a shelter on standby for flooding.

Florida – Walton County was affected by very cold temperatures yesterday.
The ARC of Northwest Florida Chapter opened a shelter for the affected-area residents and the chapter provided mass care.
Disaster Alert: Winter Storm in New York

New York – Part of the state was hit by a snowstorm yesterday causing power outages in many counties. The storm is expected to continue through today.
A total of six shelters were opened by the chapters last night and provided mass care.
