Washington, DC — Two 6 car WMATA Metro trains collided just after 5 p.m. EDT on June 22 resulting in a mass casualty situation. The National Capital Area chapter sent blankets, 5 Emergency Response Vehicles and several vans to provide meals, snacks and hydration to the emergency workers.  The chapter staffed DC Homeland Security Family Reunification center with FEMA and mental health workers were deployed.


Disaster Alert: Explosion in Illinois

Disaster Alert

Illinois - A cargo train carrying chemicals derailed near Rockford on Friday night causing an explosion, a massive fire and the evacuation of 600 homes in the surrounding area. The Rock River Chapter sent an Emergency Response Vehicle to the area and provided snacks and meals to the affected residents.


Disaster Alert: Floods in Michigan

Disaster Alert

Michigan – Thunderstorms with heavy rains caused flooding in Ottawa and Ionia counties displacing families, washing away roads, downing trees, stranding motorists and leaving thousands without power. The Greater Grand Rapids opened a shelter and provided meals to the nearly 100 residents. Disaster Action Teams were also sent to the affected areas.

Disaster Alert

Missouri – Reports of 100 mile an hour winds went through Norborne in Carroll county on Wednesday resulting in loss of power and water. A grain elevator was blown over breaking a two inch gas line causing a partial evacuation.  A Disaster Action Team (DAT) from the Mid-Missouri Chapter provided food and water to  responders and affected residents. The Capital Area Chapter had volunteers on standby.

Minnesota – A possible tornado destroyed a home, downed trees and caused power outages in Mower county yesterday. The Mower Chapter provided meals and water to those affected.

North Carolina – A report of a tornado touchdown in Cleveland county yesterday resulted in power outages and minor damage to homes. The Cleveland County Chapter sent a Disaster Assessment Team to affected mobile home community.


Disaster Alert: Flash Flooding in Pennsylvania

Disaster Alert

Pennsylvania- Flash flooding and severe weather in Alleghany, Washington, Fayette, Greene, Westmoreland and Beaver counties yesterday caused power outages, road closures and home damages. Chapters sent out Disaster Assessment Teams (DAT) to the affected areas.

Disaster Alert: Severe Weather in South Carolina

Disaster Alert

South Carolina – Severe thunderstorms affected Greenville, Laurens and Chester counties Wednesday causing power outages and structural damages in the area. An Emergency Response Vehicle was sent to the affected areas along with a Disaster Assessment Team. The chapters are providing mass care and have placed volunteers on standby. A shelter has been placed on stand-by because of more storms which are expected tonight.


Disaster Alert: Tornado in South Dakota

Disaster Alert

South Dakota – A tornado touched down in Menno Tuesday causing power outages. Two Emergency Response Vehicles were dispatched along with a Mental Health volunteer to the affected area. The Dakota Plains Chapter passed out bottled water, sunscreen and bug spray to those cleaning up the debris.
