The National Hurricane Center has now issued a Tropical Storm Warning for parts of the western Florida coast. The storm is not expected to reach full hurricane-force, and is being looked upon as a significant rain event. There are currently no plans to open any evacuation shelters, nor is there a need.
American Red Cross chapters in Florida are on stand-by – although that is really the same level of readiness most have been on for the last few weeks with wildfires. In fact, the forecast calls for a significant amount of rain that should help that situation.
As Tropical Storm Barry formed on the first official day of the hurricane season, this is a good time to remind everyone about the need for family preparedness, for every kind of disaster. Please spend a couple of moments with this presentation and learn about the three steps you can take to be Red Cross Ready.
